BUYING TIPS: REFRIGERATOR ORGANIZATION AND CAPACITY

GET THE MOST OUT OF THE SPACE IN YOUR REFRIGERATOR

When shopping for a new refrigerator, capacity is quite valuable in making a final decision. From mini-refrigerators that are less than 15 cubic feet to larger refrigerators that are well over 26 cubic feet, there are many sizes available. But there's more to refrigerator capacity than just cubic feet. Don't forget that, in the end, it'll be up to your organization skills and the ability to adjust shelving to get the most out of the space available in your fridge.

Refrigerator Shelf Space Options

Refrigerator Shelf Space

For most refrigerators, the shelving is fully adjustable, which is ideal when larger items need to be stored during holidays and birthdays. In fact, when having to store a large turkey in the fridge, taking a shelf out can free up a lot of room.

However, newer GE refrigerator models have thoroughly maximized shelf space by including drop-down shelving. A drop down shelf is hidden when you don't need it and visible when you do. There's also full shelves that can easily be slid back to make more room for taller items.

Organizing Available Refrigerator Space

On top of adjustable shelving, there are also some easy organization tips that you can take on to help keep food clutter to a minimum.

Bins & Baskets

These are perfect for keeping anything organized, especially when you have children. Remember to get ones that you can easily clean (think plastic) and have handles on them so that they can easily be pulled in and out. If you aren't able to get bins that you can view into, you may want to label each bin so that you know what's in them, i.e. leftovers, condiments, snacks, yogurt.

IN-THE-DOOR BEVERAGE RACK

These may seem out-of-date, but they're still perfect for organizing pop cans and juice cans in your refrigerator.

Make Food Easy To Find

Bins will help with this, but the easier things are to see and the easier they are to grab, the better organized your refrigerator will remain.

  • If your family likes fruits and veggies, chop everything up and put in snack size containers that are easy to grab on the go.
  • Use containers that you can see through.
  • Put taller items in the back of the fridge and smaller items in the front.
