Strawberry Walnut Preserves

Makes: 4 half pints

Ingredients

  • 3 pints fresh ripe strawberries, hulled and washed, or 1 quart frozen berries
  • 3 cups granulated sugar
  • 1/3-cup fresh lemon juice
  • ¼ cup kirsch
  • 1-¼ cup chopped walnut

Preparation

1. Combine all ingredients except walnuts in a heavy saucepan.

2. Cook over low heat until sugar dissolves - about 5 minutes.

3. Increase heat and bring to a boil. Cook for 30 minutes, stirring frequently.

4. Remove from heat and stir in walnuts.

5. Pack immediately into hot sterilized jars and process in a boiling water bath for 10 minutes. Or, mixture can be transferred into glass containers and refrigerated for use.
