Range & Wall Oven - Oven Error, Fault or Function Codes

Fault codes are programmed in all range and wall oven models which feature electronic oven controls. These codes help GE Appliances Factory Service technicians quickly diagnose issues with the range or wall oven. In the event that the electronic control displays a fault code, a trained Service Technician should be called to diagnose and correct the issue. A summary of the most common fault codes and their meanings are listed below. We cannot provide all the fault codes for past and present models.

LOC

Child Lockout is a feature on many wall oven, free-standing range and slide-in range models that prevents the oven from being turned on accidentally. ERR

ERR means that there has been an invalid entry when setting the oven controls. To view a short video on the "ERR" error: Play Video

OFF

If you are trying to set your oven for self-clean and “OFF" appears, this means the oven is too hot for the self-clean cycle to be set. Allow the oven to cool down and retry. If you are trying to BAKE or BROIL in your oven shortly after the cool down period of the self-clean cycle has ended, the oven will display OFF. Let the oven cool down longer and try again.

When a (backwards "C") is seen in the display, it means that your oven has been set for Sabbath Mode.

Repair Service Required

Sometimes shutting off the circuit breaker or fuse in the home that provides power to the range or wall oven for a minute or two will clear the error, fault or function code. However, there are cases where the oven control does not reset and service may be required. For service, please schedule a repair appointment with GE Appliances Factory Service.

We recommend turning the range or wall oven off at the circuit breaker until you have it serviced. It is okay to switch the breaker on and turn the range back on long enough to use the surface units. Be sure to turn the range off at the breaker again when you have finished.
