Refrigerator - Locating Water Supply Shut-Off Valve

The water line connected to the Refrigerator should have its own shut-off valve connected to the cold water supply line in the home. The shut-off valve is usually located under the kitchen sink, in the basement, in a crawl space or in the cabinet next to the Refrigerator.

Shut-Off Valve

  • There will be a small 1/4 inch copper line attached to the cold water supply line using a saddle valve (t-valve). The saddle valve will have a small post sticking out from the side with what looks like a wire running through the center.

Turning Off the Water Supply to the Refrigerator

  • Before shutting off the water to the fridge, turn off the icemaker. If you do not, the icemaker may keep cycling on and off and cause damage to the valve and icemaker.
  • Turn the shut-off valve in a clockwise direction until it stops.
