What is Brillion Technology?
Brillion is GE's innovative technology that enables cooperative communication between networked devices and the smart grid; empowering consumers to more effectively understand and manage their energy usage.
What is Variable (or Time-of-Use) Pricing?
Variable pricing simply means that the rate a utility company is charging for electricity use changes according to the time of day.

What is the GE Nucleus energy manager?
How can an energy manager help with energy conservation?

Nucleus energy manager with Brillion technology is an innovative new data storage device designed to communicate with a smart meter*, providing secure information about estimated household electricity consumption and costs**. By tracking energy use and rates in near real time, you can make more informed choices and take smarter steps toward a lower electric bill.

In the past, utility companies would simply read an electric meter once a month, then charge the homeowner for the energy consumed. This meant that homeowners had no way of knowing how much energy they were using until after they received their bill. Those days are over.

By simply knowing about your energy consumption, you can choose to make small lifestyle changes that may reduce your energy costs. With Nucleus energy manager, you have a centralized dashboard for monitoring your home energy consumption. Track energy use in kW (near real-time), kWh (long term) and in estimated dollars spent, then use this data to reveal trends over days, weeks and months-up to 3 years.

Ideal for homes with time-of-use electricity rates

  • If your energy provider uses variable pricing for your energy rates-for example, charging higher prices during peak hours and lower prices during off-peak hours-you can use your Nucleus energy manager software to track your near real-time energy costs** and make more informed choices about how and when to consume electricity.
  • GE is developing a full suite of GE Profile™ appliances enabled with Brillion technology that will respond to the utility power signals and adjust functions to balance cost and convenience. These appliances automatically delay cycles or suspend certain features until a time when demand is low.
  • GE's suite of Brillion home energy solutions will include Nucleus energy manager, as well as a programmable thermostat, an energy display, a smart phone application, appliances and other devices.

* AMI Zigbee® Smart Energy meter required. Consult your local electricity provider to determine if the technology is available in your area.

**As reported to your utility in kilowatt hours (kWh). Estimates of cost will vary from your actual bill because it does not include the taxes, surcharges and recovery fees added by your utility when it calculates your monthly bill.
