GE Wall Oven Recall (Limited 2002 and 2003 models)

The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission and the General Electric Company (GE) have announced a recall to inspect and repair certain GE®, GE Profile™, Monogram® and Kenmore wall ovens. Please read this Notice carefully and call the Recall Hotline for a free repair if your oven is included in the recall. This recall includes 244,000 wall ovens manufactured from October 1, 2002 to December 31, 2003.

Is your wall oven included in the recall?

Find out if your wall oven may be included in this recall. All fields are required. To locate your model and serial numbers, look at the left interior wall of your oven. For Microwave Combination Ovens the serial number will be found on the left interior wall of the microwave.

NOTE: Pay special attention to the serial number of your oven because not all wall ovens of the same model are included.

All fields are required.

Additional Information

GE is issuing this notice because some installers may not have correctly re-attached the door to certain ovens. An incorrectly re-attached wall oven door will not open into the flat position. As a result the oven rack placed in the lowest position in the oven cannot be extended fully.

The extreme heat used in the self-clean cycle can escape if the oven door is incorrectly re-attached and damage or ignite adjacent kitchen cabinets. If your oven door is re-attached incorrectly do not use the self-clean cycle and call GE for a free repair. You may continue to use normal baking or broiling functions in your oven until any needed repair is completed.

GE is aware of twenty-eight incidents in which adjacent kitchen cabinets may have been damaged due to improperly re-attached wall oven doors. There have been no reported injuries.

If you have one of the wall ovens described above and want to arrange a free service call, or if you want more information, begin by completing the above form. If you have one of the wall ovens included in the recall and want more information, please see our frequently asked questions or call the GE Hotline.

This recall is being conducted in cooperation with the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission, which will also monitor the effectiveness of this program.
