Additional Information

This voluntary recall is due to the potential for shock and fire, caused by the possible contact of a broken wire with a metal component of the washtub during operation of the machine. GE will provide a free repair to all consumers with units affected by the recall. Consumers should unplug the washer from its electrical outlet and not operate their washer until the unit is repaired.

GE is aware of seven instances in which flames have escaped units and caused minor smoke damage. GE is not aware of any secondary ignition, shock or personal injury.

The model and serial numbers are important, as not all front load washing machines are included in the recall. Look at the outer right side of your GE front load washer above the rating plate or on the inside door to find the model and serial number.

This recall is being conducted in cooperation with the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission, which will also monitor the effectiveness of the recall program.
