Product Recall Information
FAQs - Safety Recall of GE Zoneline Air Conditioner/Heat Units
-
Why is GE recalling the product?
As part of its commitment to product quality and safety, GE is voluntarily recalling GE-brand packaged terminal air conditioners and packaged terminal heat pumps sold from January 2010 through December 2013 due to a risk of fire.
-
What is the issue that prompted the recall?
GE has determined that in certain units, moisture can accumulate near the unit's heater, creating a ground path. When this occurs along with two shorted electrical components, this poses a risk of fire. GE has received three reports of fire in the affected models. No injuries have been reported.
-
What is the repair solution?
GE-authorized service technicians will replace the affected component. The repair will eliminate the potential fire hazard. GE's recall plan and the repair have been reviewed and approved by the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC).

-
Can customers continue to use their PTACs?
If you have a unit in the recall, please contact GE to schedule a free repair by calling the Recall Hotline toll-free at 866-723-2697 from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Eastern time, Monday through Friday. Do not operate the PTAC unit with the external vent open until after the unit has been repaired.
-
How do I close the vent door on my PTAC?
To close the vent door, remove the front cover and locate the vent door lever in the middle of the unit's left side. When the vent door is closed, only the air inside the room is circulated and filtered. The vent door control instructions can be found on page 4 of the Zoneline Owner's Manual here.
