20 Servings
10 minutes prep time, 5-10 minutes cook time
INGREDIENTS
½ lb of bread
3 TBS olive oil
â…› tsp garlic powder
¼ tsp kosher salt such as Diamond Crystal or â…› tsp table salt
Several grinds of black pepper
INSTRUCTIONS
- Cut bread into cubes that are about ¾ - 1 inch in size
- Toss bread cubes with olive oil and seasonings and distribute on a sheet pan in a single layer
- Air fry at 350°F for 5-10 minutes, until desired crispness is achieved. If you prefer croutons hat are crisp throughout, reduce temperature to 300°F and increase cook time.
- Use to top salads or soups, or just enjoy as a snack.
TIPS
- A half pound or bread should make about 4-6 cups of bread cubes
- Try adding herbs such as parsley or basil or using a seasoned bread loaf
- Corn bread makes delicious croutons that pair wonderfully with chili
- These can be made with any bread - we like these best made with bakery loaves such as sourdough boules, French loaves, or Italian loaves, but basic sandwich bread makes delicious croutons too.
- If bread is very fresh or soft, air fry at 300°F for a few minutes to dry the cubes a bit before tossing with oil to prevent the bread cubes from absorbing too much oil. If this is done it may be necessary to reduce the final cook time.
