Can I continue to use my dishwashers?
We ask that you not use your dishwasher until it is repaired and disconnect the electric supply by shutting off the fuse or circuit breaker controlling it and inform all users of the dishwasher about the risk of fire.
-
What should I do if I have a recalled dishwasher?
GE is proactively contacting as many customers as possible. In the meantime, if you have a recalled dishwasher, you should not use your dishwasher, disconnect power, and visit the GE Recall website at www.geappliances.com/ge/recall/ to get answers to your questions 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, or call the Recall Hotline toll-free at 877-275-6840 from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Eastern time Monday through Friday for more information or to arrange for a free service call. Before you call, write down the model and serial number of your dishwasher.
-
How many incidents is GE aware of? Have there been any injuries?
GE has been made aware of five instances of escaped fires, four of which caused damage to the kitchen counter-tops where the dishwashers were installed and one caused damage to adjacent cabinets and smoke damage to the home. No injuries have been reported.
-
How can I tell if my dishwasher is one of the affected models?
The serial number is important, as not all dishwashers with these model numbers are included. Look inside on the front left side of the dishwasher tub to find the model and serial number. View entire list of affected dishwasher model and serial numbers in the first FAQ on this page.
-
Can I receive a new dishwasher for free instead of the repair?
No. We will repair the dishwasher free-of-charge. If you have a recalled dishwasher, you will not be offered a new dishwasher free of charge. These dishwashers are between four and seven years old. If you wish to replace your dishwasher with a new model, you can use a GE rebate of $200 for the purchase of a new GE Profile dishwasher and a GE rebate of $400 for purchase of a new Monogram dishwasher. View details and rebate forms or visit our retailers.
-
Do I have to use the rebate?
No. You do not have to replace your dishwasher. You can have your dishwasher repaired for free if you choose. If you wish to replace your dishwasher with a new model, you can use a GE rebate of $200 for the purchase of a new GE Profile dishwasher and a GE rebate of $400 for purchase of a new Monogram dishwasher. -
If I choose the repair, can I request a rebate for a new dishwasher as well?

-
Did the CPSC force GE to issue a Recall?
No, this is a voluntary recall. We have worked closely with the CPSC throughout this process. Our effort here is to reach all consumers who may have the recalled dishwashers.
-
What if I have a service contract on my dishwasher?
All dishwashers included in the recall will be repaired at no charge regardless of a service contract.
-
What is the problem? Why are dishwashers being recalled?
GE has determined that water condensation can drip onto the electronic control board, causing a short circuit and resulting in an overheated connector. This poses a fire hazard to consumers.
-
What will GE do to repair my dishwasher?
GE service technicians have been trained to make the repair. Technicians will remove the outer door panel of the dishwasher and install a plastic shield and heat sensor. This provides protection and prevents any fire hazards.
-
Will I have to pay anything for the repair?
No. GE will repair the dishwashers at no charge to consumers.
-
Can I repair the dishwasher myself, or can I take it to a dealer for repair?
No. This repair involves changes to electrical wiring systems and should be made only by experienced repairers. In appliance repairs GE will repair the dishwasher free-of-charge through a GE authorized Service Technician.
