Frequently Asked Questions

  1. How do I find my model and serial number for my appliance?
GE Appliances and its family of brands provide help in finding your appliance model numbers and serial numbers on its website . You will find the tag that contains those numbers in various places depending on the appliance and model number. You can click on the brand of appliance and then find the type of appliance in the provided list. From there, you will be guided to where the tag should be found on that appliance. As a helpful hint, know that GE Appliances and GE Profile model numbers always begin and end with a letter. Monogram products’ model numbers begin with a Z or a U. Also, newer appliance tags may include a QR code that you can scan with your phone to take you directly to your appliance’s model and serial number information.
  2. My appliance is having trouble and might need repair. How can this site help me troubleshoot my product?
You can use the GE Appliances Knowledge Base to search for troubleshooting help using keywords. For example, you can search for “dishwasher leaking” or “range fault code” to find information—also, scroll down the page to find the Need Help Troubleshooting section with links to our products. You can also find maintenance and support videos links to find your appliance’s owners manual and installation instructions, too.
  3. Where do I find the owner's manual and installation instructions?
You can find your owners manual on the product information page for your specific appliance at GEAppliances.com, or you can search for it by entering your product’s model number here. If you have a My Account set up, you’ll also find manuals for all appliances you’ve registered as being owned by you.
  4. How old is my appliance? Are there ways for me to determine the age or year of manufacture of my appliance?
To find the age of your appliance, you’ll need the serial number (not the model number). GE Appliances serial numbers begin with two letters followed by six numbers and a letter at the end. The two letters at the beginning of your serial number will tell you the month and year it was made by referencing the chart on this page. Or you can also use your owners manual to find the manufacturing date. It’s usually found on the front or back page of your manual.
  5. Where do I find the wiring diagram for my product?
For GE Appliances products, you’ll receive a wiring diagram (also called a mini-manual) with your appliance when you purchase it. If you can’t locate that document, you can also visit our Wiring Diagram Locations list on our website. For additional support, you can call our customer service center. Have your model number ready and dial 1-800-626-2005 Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. They are closed Saturday and Sunday.
  6. I'm ready to install my appliance. How much clearance space do I need around it?
GE Appliances offers a list of minimum air clearance requirements for its appliances to ensure they receive proper air circulation and installation. You can also find installation instructions in your owners manual.
  7. Where is the nearest dealer or store that sells appliance products? I live in the US.
To find the dealer closest to you where you can see and purchase GE Appliances in person, visit our Where to Buy page. You’ll also find links to parts distributors and HVAC installers there.
  8. How can I find appliance dealers in Canada or other places outside the US?
To find GE Appliances in Canada or other countries around the world, visit this page and choose your country from our list of links. You can also find information about dealers and services in your area.
  9. What is the delivery status for my appliance or parts order?
GE Appliances provides basic guidelines for checking on appliance delivery on its website. If you’ve purchased your appliance from a dealer or retail store, you should contact them for information on delivery. For online purchases directly from GEAppliances.com, you can call customer service or check your confirmation email for details.
  10. Can I use a generator to run my appliance?
According to the GE Appliances website, as long as it provides the proper voltage, frequency, and can supply proper power to your appliance, you can connect it to a generator. However, there is some additional information you’ll need to determine the proper size generator and the rated power for your appliance. You’ll find the details here.
  11. What do I do with water damaged appliances?
If your appliance has been exposed to flood waters or other water damage, ensure the power is disconnected before touching, unplugging, or inspecting the appliance. For more information on flooded appliances, check here.
